Pi Day

It's Pi Day.  Yay.  Here is a fun video that explains why pi is not special (and probably stupid).  Enjoy!

Term 2 Portfolio Self-Assessment...Who Wants FREE MARKS?

Hey!  Grade 10 students!  The term 2 self-assessment questions are up in your online portfolios.  Please check them out and answer them by Monday, March 5.  Remember that this self-assessment amounts to 10% of your term mark.  Try to be honest (if your portfolio is empty and you give yourself 10 out of 10, I will "adjust" that), but it's essentially free marks as a reward for clearly documenting, reflecting upon, and communicating your learning through the term!

Term 2 Test Make-Up Day

The final chance to make up a missing test this term will be after school on Thursday, March 1.  If you are missing a test and want it included in your term 2 mark, please show up at this time.

Term 2 Mid-term Portfolio Assessment

Hello, grade 10's.  Your mid-term portfolio assessment questions are now available online.  Please log on to your portfolios and answer the questions I've posted there by Wednesday, February 14.  If you've been keeping up with the portfolio, don't be shy about giving yourself 5 out of 5.  On the other hand, if you've done very little (or nothing) in your portfolio this term, it's not too late start!  Remember that the mid-term is 5 marks, but the self-assessment you do at the end of the term is 10 marks.  Show me the math!

It's a New Year

Welcome back from your Winter Break.  Some people like to use the New Year as a time to reflect and to refocus.  If that is you, it may mean looking for ways to improve your learning in school.  Keep in mind that the keys to success in school are regular attendance, a positive attitude, a good effort, and staying focused.  For most students, attendance and attitude are not an issue, but effort and focus are their downfall.  You all know what you need to do.  Now, go do it and don't allow your friends, your phone, or anything else to distract you from your goals.  Take control!  Have a great year.

Happy Holidays!

Enjoy your time off with your friends and family.  Please, don't do math homework over the holidays (I mean it)!  It's not the time for that nonsense.

See you in January.

Term 1 Test Make-Up Day (Part 2)

A few students couldn't make it to the test make-up day on Tuesday, November 14 for various reasons (including my favourite, "I forgot").  Others have missed, or will miss, a test scheduled for this week.  Therefore, I'm scheduling another test make-up day for Monday, December 4.  As always, it will take place after school.  If, by that date, you are missing a test from this term, please come by to write it.

However, know that the office wants all term 1 marks by 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 6.  Therefore, if you write a test on Monday, December 4, I can't promise to have it marked in time to include it in the term 1 mark that the office receives.  This means your mark will look much lower than it should be, for now.  Once your test is marked, I can go back and update your term 1 mark, but this may not happen until after your official term 1 mark has been issued by the school.
